Important hardwood facts for those who still aren’t sure

Some homeowners believe that to have hardwood floors installed, it takes tons of money and time, but that isn’t always the case. Of course, the materials are a little more expensive at first, but when you consider the lifespan compared to the price, you’ll find it to be a great saving over time. It’s definitely worth it. And it does take a little more time to install, but again, it’s worth it. The craftsmanship put into the installation process can mean as much as the flooring itself once the job is finished.

Solid hardwood flooring is just what you might expect: a solid piece of wood from top to bottom. The most well-known and popular, these floors come in a variety of species and can be stained with a variety of colors and hues. When wear and damage become an issue, the flooring can then be refinished; leaving you with a floor that looks just like new and the process can be repeated several times before replacement is necessary. And with a lifespan of 100 years easily, you may never see these floors replaced.

Engineered hardwood flooring is another option available to you. The solid variety can never be used in below-ground spaces, which makes engineered flooring a perfect alternative. You still get a great variety of species options and stain colors, but much more benefit in the stability and the different kinds of wear it can tolerate. Engineered floors can also be refinished if the veneer is thick enough.

Both types of flooring have a protective finish that protects both looks and longevity. For solid hardwood, that could come in the form of a high-quality wax finish, while engineered floors have a hardy wear layer atop the veneer of real wood. Both materials are great for those with allergies, as well, as they harbor no allergens and can easily be cleaned daily with just a broom and a dust mop.
